Black-Blood Slice Factor

Use Black-Blood Slice Factor to improve blood suppression by adjusting an inversion slice thickness factor for the following PSD:

  • Scan selections for Double-IR: 2D Mode, Fast Spin Echo family, FSE pulse, Blood Suppression Imaging Option.
  • Scan selections for Triple-IR: 2D Mode, Fast Spin Echo family, FSE-IR pulse, Blood Suppression Imaging Option.

Consider the following when adjusting the Black-Blood Slice Factor. The selected factor means that the inversion slice thickness is X.X times thicker than the Slice Thickness value prescribed on the Scan Parameter screen.

  • The default value is 3.3.
  • For long axis scan, the recommended Black-Blood Slice Factor is 1.0.
  • For short axis scan, the recommended Black-Blood Slice Factor is 3.3.
  • As the factor decreases, the signal from blood decreases and the myocardium signal may decrease depending on cardiac motion.
Figure 1. Black-Blood Slice factor = 1; note the decreased signal form blood
Figure 2. Black-Blood Slice factor = 3.3, note the increased signal from myocardium
