T2MAP cardiac scan

About this task

T2MAP may not be for sale in all markets due to approval or clearance by in-country regulatory agencies.

T2MAP is commercially known as CardioMaps.

Use these steps to acquire T2MAP images for cardiac applications. The acquired data can be processed in READY View to produce T2 color maps.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Start a scan session.
  2. From the Workflow Manager, click Add Task > Add Sequence.
  3. From the Protocol screen, select the Chest tab and a cardiac T2MAP protocol from your site or GE library.
    • At a minimum, include a localizer and T2MAP series.
    • If you cannot locate a T2MAP protocol in either library, then from the Protocol screen:
      1. From the GE protocol library, click the Template tab.
      2. Click the Applications folder.
      3. From the Applications list, click T2MAP and add it to the Multi-Protocol Basket.
      4. Click Accept.
  4. Acquire a 3-Plane localizer.
  5. From the Workflow Manager, click Setup and make protocol adjustments, as needed.
  6. From the Series Summary panel, click Imaging Options... to open the PSD/Applications/Imaging Options screen. Make adjustments, as needed.
    1. From the Imaging Options screen, click Blood Suppression. Note that Cardiac Gating/Triggering and Sequential are always On. Select other compatible Imaging Options as needed.
  7. From the Scan Parameters and Detail screens, make scan parameter adjustments, as needed.
    • T2MAP is best acquired with phased array coils because ARC or ASSET should be selected for shorter breath hold scans.
    • If slice spacing is less than 20% of the slice thickness and if the TR prescribed can accommodate the prescribed slices in a single acquisition, the system will automatically change the prescription to two acquisitions in order to reduce the cross talk effects.
    • The TE is the primary scan parameter that controls T2 weighting. It is not a selectable parameter with the T2MAP application.
  8. Click the Cardiac tab and make adjustments, as needed.
    • Diastolic trigger delay is preferred.
    • # of RR intervals is typically 1, but 2 may be necessary with patients that have a high heart rate.
    • Trigger window = 10-20
  9. Click the Advanced tab and select User CV values, if needed.
    • CV1 Maximum TE for Cardiac T2 Mapping: Recommend value is approximately 100-110 msec.
    • CV14 Black-Blood Slice Factor: If there is myocardial signal loss due to cardiac motion in short-axis planes, this value should be increased to 4 or 5. For long-axis imaging, this value should always be reduced to 1.2.
    • Blurring Cancellation
    • Extreme High Resolution Optimization
    • Spatial SAT Type
  10. Prescribe Graphic Rx and SAT, as appropriate. Due to the T2MAP scan time length, typically only scan in the area of interest.
  11. If desired, see Add post-process task. Compatible post-process tasks include:
  12. Click Save Rx > Scan.
