Understanding slice orientation and image annotations
The Viewer includes coordinate annotations that explain the orientation of the subject when the scan captured the image.
| Abbreviation | Definition |
|---|---|
| R | Right |
| L | Left |
| A | Anterior |
| P | Posterior |
| S | Superior |
| I | Inferior |
You can combine these abbreviations to understand precisely how the subject was oriented in three planes.
In this image, the annotations explain that the image was obtained with the following orientations:
| Location | Annotation | Definition |
|---|---|---|
| Top | SAR | Superior, anterior, right orientation |
| Right | SLA | Superior, left, anterior orientation |
| Bottom | IPL | Inferior, posterior, left orientation |
| Left | IRP | Inferior, right, posterior orientation |
