Scan AutoStart

AutoStart automatically starts the first series of an exam when the scan room door is closed. The magnet room door must be closed to start scanning and to avoid image quality degradation from RF leaking into the room.

If AutoStart has been turned on in either the protocol or from the Workflow Manager, when the table has Advanced to Scan, the Start button on the magnet cover is illuminated. This is the visual cue that AutoStart is enabled.

Use AutoStart to reduce the time the patient spends on the table in the scan room. The localizer can be scanned during the time interval between closing the scan room door and the arrival of the technologist at the console, thus allowing the technologist to prescribe graphic locations for subsequent scans. This time savings can be particularly helpful for claustrophobic patients, children, and patients in pain or discomfort.

• If AutoStart has been turned on in either the protocol or from the Workflow Manager, when the table has Advanced to Scan, the Start button on the magnet cover is illuminated. This is the visual cue that AutoStart is enabled.
• Once you stop the scan, AutoStart cannot be re-initiated for the series. The series must be started from the Scan desktop.
• If a TPS reset occurs mid-study, the AutoStart capability will not resume within the exam.
• If AutoStart is enabled and the scan does not begin when the scan room door is closed, first check to make sure all scan parameters have been completed. Next check the error log to see what caused the AutoStart failure.
• If the scan room door is closed when Advance to Scan is pressed, then it must be opened and closed to start the scan.
• Assume that AutoStart has been turned on in the protocol and the protocol has been loaded into the Workflow Manager. If the first series (for example, a localizer) of the protocol is cut from the Workflow Manager, AutoStart is still active and will begin scanning the first series when the scan room door is closed. AutoStart always applies to the first series in the Workflow Manager.
