Troubleshooting

The recommended amplitude of the VCG trace is 1.0 mV.

  • A satisfactory trace displays a green waveform.
  • If the signal is less than 0.8 mV, the system displays a yellow waveform.
  • If the trace is less than 0.4 mV, the system displays a red waveform.

In this example, VCGI has a trace of 1.58 mV and a satisfactory green waveform. The white tick marks indicate successful triggering.

VCGII has a trace of 0.8 mV and a yellow waveform. The absence of tick marks indicates inadequate triggering.

Note: If the yellow waveform produced tick marks, the exam may continue without any further intervention. In this example, the VCGII electrode should be evaluated. Options to explore include:
  • Clean the chest again thoroughly. Be sure that all hair has been adequately removed.
  • Place a new electrode.
  • You may need to reposition the electrodes. Consider whether pathology, such as infarc-tion, atrial fibrillation, or anatomical variance, may cause an abnormal conduction.
