The static magnetic field strengths used by your MR system are within the guidelines provided by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for clinical imaging. However, there are several cautions that need to be understood:
IEC 60601-2-33: 201.7.9.2.101 (k)
CAUTION
IEC 60601-2-33: 201.7.9.2.101 (k)Minimize the time spent near the magnet. Spend only the time necessary to attend to the needs of the patient.
CAUTION
IEC 60601-2-33: 201.7.9.2.101 (u)MR scanning has not been established as safe for imaging fetuses or infants. Carefully compare the benefits of MR versus alternative procedures before scanning to control risk to the patient. The scanning of pregnant patients with the whole body RF transmit coil should be limited to the Normal Operating Mode with respect to SAR. It is not advisable to scan pregnant patients in the first trimester or unknown pregnancy status as the fetus is especially sensitive to potential thermal events during the first trimester.
